McDonald's which is the world's biggest restaurant chain is recalling its drinking glasses, which are being sold at their restaurants are believed to be unsafe. The painted designs of the movie characters on glassware found to have cadmium in it.
They have been selling these glasses for promotion of the "Shrek" movie but the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned the consumers not buy these glasses as they are unhealthy. High concentration of cadmium may cause lung cancer and can also cause bone softening and severe kidney problems.
McDonald's Corp., the world's biggest restaurant chain, is recalling drinking glasses promoting the new "Shrek" movie in the U. S. because they're tainted with cadmium. This may spoil the image of McDonald's, as people have faith on this brand. "The challenge for McDonald's will not be the lost revenue from the promotion, but the perception concerns regarding the recall," Forte said.
Cadmium is a known carcinogen that research shows also can cause bone softening and severe kidney problems. "To ensure that our customers receive safe products from us, we made the decision to stop selling them and voluntarily recall these products, effective immediately." he said. No injuries have been reported yet but McDonald's is warning customers to stop using the 16-ounce glasses, which sold for about $2.
