It is reported that a coalition of groups representing emergency services in New South Wales are seeking the hoteliers to pay them additional profit what they call as 'super-profits tax' on bars that remain open past 3:00am.
The groups including the Health Services Union, the Australian Medical Association and the Nurses Association want the hotels to pay a tax with the additional money being used to pay, including the increased costs to police and the health system from alcohol-related violence.
The Head of the Police Association, Scott Weber said that the hotel lobby was promoting an underbelly approach in regard to the licensing.
"What we want to see is not a piecemeal effect, or just targeting the hotspots. We want to see it across the state, to make sure everyone is safe", he added.
Reports claim that the New South Wales Government has already disapproved a call by emergency services concerning the imposition of a state-wide 1:00am lock-out on venues.
A curfew in Newcastle was enthusiastically acclaimed to be spectacular success following a slip in the number of assaults; however, the Government posted that a blanket approach was not required.
