The U.S. aircraft giant Boeing Co. has announced to submit a bid in a view to develop the next U.S. presidential helicopter with the assistance of Italian defense and aerospace Company Finmeccanica SpA.
In a statement released on its website Monday, Boeing revealed to seek a license from Finmeccanica unit AgustaWestland for the same, under its bid plan to develop the next fleet of Marine One helicopters.
On the website of Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore, a report uncovers both Finmeccanica and Boeing to have agreed to be a part of the tender concerning the set up of the new U.S. presidential helicopter.
Rome-based Finmeccanica had previously disclosed to be in talks with Boeing to work on projects together.
In 2005, Finmeccanica signed a contract with Lockheed Martin Corp. However, the contract could not go further as the U.S. administration disapproved it, citing its construction costs.
The license secured from Finmeccanica will grant it intellectual property, data and production rights for the helicopter.
"Because of this arrangement, the aircraft will be a Boeing aircraft, built by Boeing personnel at one of its U.S. facilities," it outlined. "The Company will submit information regarding this aircraft in response to the Navy's current request for information by the June 18 deadline".
