The number of people accessing social networking sites on their mobile phones to stay in touch with friends and family on the move has grown exponentially. This was found by Telstra in its study of more than five million 3G mobile customers over a 12-month period.
The number of people using Facebook on their mobiles has increased by nearly 390% since April 2009. The number of people using Twitter on their mobile phones has increased by 450% as compared to last year. People using MySpace on mobiles has increased by 230% in the last one year.
It was also found that Facebook is the most popular social networking site followed by MySpace, YouTube and Twitter. The peak time for social networking on mobile phones is between 8pm and 10pm.
Telstra is also launching a new service called Tribe for its customers. It will combine Facebook, Twitter and MySpace in a single location. It will allow customers to easily use all these sites from a single page. The service is free for all the users while pre-paid customers will need a minimum recharge of $20 every 30 days to access this unlimited service.
