Controversy over Government’s Payroll System
Australian Medical Association of Queensland

According to The Australian Medical Association of Queensland (AMAQ), there is an increase in the number of doctors leaving the state's public health system. The doctors are reported to resign because of the fight over faults in the payroll system.

The report also reveals that the payroll crisis has affected nearly 80% of the doctors. These doctors have not received overtime allowances for more than three months.

AMAQ President, Dr. Mason Stevenson is of the view that junior doctors who work in regional areas are affected more as compared to the doctors in the other parts of the country. These doctors are now trying to get work at some other place.

The problem has assumed larger dimensions and has continued for 12 weeks. A Queensland Health worker in Cairns, on conditions of anonymity has revealed that many people are still not being paid properly even after the launch of new system.

Health Minister, Paul Lucas, disclosed that it will take time to solve the problem. She expressed her regret over the entire situation and apologized to the Queensland Health staff.

Dr. Stevenson revealed that the State Government should urgently derive a solution to the problem. He further added that if the Government was unable to pay the doctors appropriately in the medium term, then they should give them incentives, so the doctors do not leave the hospital.
