U.S. Soldier Held Captive over Leak of Confidential Videotape

On Monday, the U. S. military said that a U. S. soldier has been taken into custody in connection with the release of a secret video revealing a 2007 helicopter assault, which took a toll on a dozen individuals in Baghdad, together with two Reuters news personnel.

According to a U. S. military statement, Army Specialist, Bradley Manning, 22, of Potomac, Maryland, who was positioned to Baghdad, is being kept in pretrial captivity in Kuwait, "for allegedly releasing classified information".

The statement did not offer much details of the information under consideration, but in an emailed answer to a question, a U. S. official substantiated that the case entailed a U. S. military videotape released in April by WikiLeaks, a group, which encourages the leaking of data to battle with Government and commercial bribery.

The gunsight video clip exhibits an assault by a U. S. Apache helicopter on a bunch of men in a square in a Baghdad region.

The group comprised Reuters photographer, Namir Noor-Eldeen, 22, and his helper and driver, Saeed Chmagh, 40.

Wired magazine that primarily reported about the arrest on its website on Sunday evening, said that Manning, an intelligence analyst, came under doubt after he told an ex-hacker during an email response that he had disclosed the video.
