Sir Michael Lyons, BBC Trust Chairman conducted a meeting with Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt regarding the BBC's regulatory structure. It was a long, private meeting, with no advisors present.
BBC insiders claimed that his discussion with Hunt was very positive, though, the trust failed to comment on Lyon's diary engagements. Lyons and Hunt argued openly about various issues, before the general election, pertaining to the future of the BBC Trust.
Hunt acted as shadow Culture Secretary and shared that Tories would ditch the Trust in support of a regulatory body. Trust was defended by Lyons faithfully, against any such move. Lyons insisted that the Trust was still best placed to regulate the BBC's activities.
Hunt shared that it should be ensured that the benefits of super-fast broadband are available to everyone.
He said, "The action plan I have set out today will help create a broadband infrastructure for our country that meets the needs of all its citizens and businesses, and that will stand comparison with anywhere in the world".
Hunt's speech was lauded by the Country, Land and Business Association (CLA), which campaigns for better rural broadband services. It is for sure a big step in the right direction for rural broadband, shared CLA President, William Worsley.
