The emergency departments of Waitemata are once again ranked lowest in the whole area.
All the health boards in the country are supposed to transfer or discharge majority of patients within six hours. But, it has been reported that, one fourth of patients treated in emergency rooms of Waitemata District Health, stay there for six hours or even longer. This is the most horrible performance of any health board in New Zealand.
Slight upgradation in the services of the board has taken place .However; the board continues to occupy the lowermost rank in the ranking of 20 health boards in the country.
According to Dave Davies, Health Board Chief Executive of Waitemata, there will be an addition of eight staff persons in the North Shore emergency department in July. This move will be very beneficial for the department.
Mr. Davies further adds that the expert nurses will be able to handle less urgent patients and this will make the doctors available for the patients who require urgent care. There is already a team of seven nurse specialists at the hospital. This team has been performing a similar role at hospital since mid last-year. This team has proved to be very instrumental in dealing with patient inflow.
