According to a recent report, Josephine Robertson, an American billionaire has lost her life after battling with cancer for some time. Robertson was a key patron of the Auckland Art Gallery.
Robertson is reported to have passed away at her home in New York City on Tuesday night. She was suffering from breast cancer.
Mrs. Robertson's husband Julian was a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. They were famous for their charity to Auckland Art Gallery. Sources reveal that the couple donated artworks to the tune of around $115 million to the gallery.
The couple had also started two opulent golf resorts. These resorts are Cape Kidnappers in Hawkes Bay and Kauri Cliffs near Kerikeri.
Chris Saines, the Director of the Gallery revealed that the staff was remorseful on getting the news, as the couple had become good friends. He also added that Mrs. Robertson was a philanthropist who dedicated her whole life in charity, as she was in love with the country.
Mrs. Robertson was an innovative woman with aesthetic sensibilities. After starting many charity programmes, the couple came up with the Robertson Foundation in 1996. This foundation gave monetary help to different fields such as education, religious groups the environment, medical research and other charities.
