The appointments, declared for the short-term board of the new Health Quality and Safety Commission is praised by the senior doctors. The Board is appointed by Tony Ryall, who is the Minister of Health. Formation of this interim board was suggested by the Ministerial Review Group, last year.
On the other hand, the Quality improvement Committee is ended by the Government.
Professor Alan Merry, from the University of Auckland would preside over the Board. Merry is a well- known leader, who is always in favor of better quality in the health care system of New Zealand. Former National President, Dr. David Galler is also a very significant appointment for the Board. He is also an intensivist care specialist. Other than these two, Dr. Peter Foley, Shelly Frost, Anthea Penny, Peter Jansen and Geraint Martin are the appointees made for the Board.
Mr. lan Powell from the Association of Salaried Medical Specialist has also backed the appointments. Mr. lan is the Executive Director of the Association.
This Board is appointed to perform a very vital role for the better quality in the health system. The commission will promote to follow the safety and quality; this approach will help in providing better care of patients and also the benefits for the system. The commission will also focus on the management on medication safety, management of healthcare incidents, and control of infections.
