Police Wants Assistance in Identifying Tyre Offender

Yesterday, Wanaka police released CCTV images of an individual that they say supposedly ripped the tyres of over 40 automobiles in the town during the wee hours of Saturday.

The video recording was taken near McGregor's and Reece Cres at 2.40am and demonstrates a man of medium physical built donning dark jeans, a grey tee and dark shoes with light-colored soles.

He goes down on his knees at the passenger front side tyre of a beige Toyota Hi-ace and makes a slashing or piercing movement with his left arm.

Sergeant Allan Grindell, of Wanaka, said that police had got 51 grievances and officials required public's assistance to recognize the criminal.

He said that preliminary investigations pointed out that two men may be engaged, but the police was focusing on the man in the video clip.

Mr. Grindell said that the binge began around Upton St. and Roche St. before the criminal, or criminals, went down to Dungarvon St. to the foreshore.

From the town centre, the bender moved to Reece Cres and about Mt. Aspiring College grounds.

Subjective reports indicated that vehicle repair companies had dearth of replacement tyres.

Grindell said that majority of the harm was cut tyres, but some vehicles were smashed and others had wing mirrors ruined.
