More Sales of Bicycles Boost Halfords’ Proceeds

Retailer Halfords has been successful in delivering a 27% increase in earnings after poor winter weather compelled motorists to invest from their pockets heavily on car maintenance accessories.

The group also informed about sustained strong sales and market share increase in cycling, as it posted an excess of £117.1 million for the year to April 2, a number that is somewhat higher than what City’s expectations were.

Chief Executive, David Wild said that it had been an exceptional year for the corporation, with revenues up by 4.6% to £831.6 million and by 0.7% on a like-for-like basis.

He further stated that the firm’s performance in this period of economic slump seemed to have helped not only the Company but also the entire industry to get good incomes and has also encouraged the industry to do even better than now.

In the month of February, the Company shifted its action into repairing cars with the purchase of Nationwide Auto centers for £73.2 million, with early trading signals from the novel addition encouraging.

In car maintenance, which is able to generate almost 30% of the firm's revenues, like-for-like sales were up by 8% as Halfords improved its market share and received benefits from the increase in demand, which was caused by the wintry weather.
