Apologies have been sought from rock band Status Quo, by a Council Chief, after one of the local authority's job adverts revealed their fans need not apply. A private recruitment agency has been hired by Brighton & Hove City Council to create the advert for four strategy directors who will each be given £125,000 a year.
John Barradell, Chief Executive posted an open letter of apology on the site, as it said, “Status Quo fans need not apply”. He shared that his wife tipped him that Quo fans might get upset with the advert.
He wrote, “Dear Status Quo (and fans!), "A quick note about our recruitment campaign, which has been noticed far beyond my expectations. Firstly, I'm sorry if any offence has been caused by our advert slogan 'Status Quo fans need not apply' - none was intended”.
He stated further that this play of words has been done, so that people who will come to the council should have brilliant and original ideas on the subject of how to make residents' lives better.
This will make them stand out from the crowd and more people would get interested in it. Musical preference will not be asked at interview, as it is irrelevant to the recruitment of these jobs.
