IOD Introduces New Guidelines for British Board Directors

Institute of Directors has introduced an instruction booklet, which will provide guidelines to the Board of Directors for manipulating their functions in the highly sensitive conditions, aroused in the country due to the volatile alterations incorporated in the Combined Code. The same has been renamed as the Corporation Governance Code.

The alterations have been introduced after the release of the review of David Walker’s baking predicament report, last year. The first directive ensures boardroom liability. It will be enforced by the end of this month.

The guidelines expect the Board to undergo elections every year. Director salary and shareholder relationships will be paid greater attention. Equality, as well as multiplicity of the genders will also be considered in the Boards. They will be asked to report performance analysis.

The new guidelines basically aim at helping the Directors in defining their functions as per the authoritarian pattern. It will determine the principles under the new code.

The handbook comprises case studies based in the experiences of the experts.

Dr. Roger Barker, the IoD’s Head of Corporate Governance, said that there is a need of efficient corporate administration throughout the country.

"This is an unprecedented moment of change for corporate governance and this is just the beginning”.
