Queensland health officials heading awareness drive for stimulating the women in the region towards the risk of heart attacks.

Bronwyn Buckley, an official at Women's Health Queensland Wide said that the number of rural women undergoing health check-ups is lesser in comparison with the city women.

She recommended there is an urgent need of promoting heath awareness among the rural woman so that they understand the need of going in for regular heath check-ups.

"Heart disease isn't always obvious, and heart disease kills four times as many women as breast cancer, and 31 women a day die from heart disease", she says.

She added that as many as 11,000 women suffer heart attacks every year.

The awareness drive which saw all the volunteers wearing red, was initialed after the release of the report that a majority of the women in Australia die of heart attacks.

The report was compiled by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. It claimed that as many as two million Australian women have been suffering from cardiovascular disease, at present.

The report also suggested that the disease has claimed a number of lives, so far, with a majority of them facing early deaths
