Recently New York Times published an article in which it disapproved of Darmouth Atlas of Healthcare.
The article was named "Critics Question Study Cited in Health Debate". It was written by Gardiner Harris and Reed Abelson. In this article the authors cast a doubt over the findings of Jack Wennberg, Elliott Fisher, and their co-authors in the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care.
According to the authors of the article, the lawmakers should be skeptical of the claims made by Dartmouth. In the Atlas, the economical hospitals and regions are mentioned .However, the NY Times reporters are of the view that this finding was based on wrong data.
A journalist at the Century Foundation, Maggie Mahar revealed that some of the sources of NY times were irritated with their position in the newspaper. She also said that there are some mistakes in the facts given by Harris and Abelson.
However, their article is instrumental in emphasizing on the debate to compare health care suppliers on the basis of two parameters, namely cost and quality. They bring to light the fact that there are many people who do not agree with the Dartmouth Atlas.
The question is that if so many people disapprove of Darmouth Atlas then why are the lawmakers relying on it? The reason for this may be that the data provided by the people who are against the Darmouth Atlas is also unclear.
