Relay for Life at Southridge High School and Port Angeles

Relay for life, the event organized for raising funds for the cancer patients, has so far, managed to save a number of lives. Some of those who are indebted to the volunteer's of the event include Shanda Braithwaite and Jeannie Heikkila, whose chemotherapy was entirely funded by Relay for life.

The event will begin at Southridge High School in Kennewick, tonight. The luminaria ceremony, included in the event will be honoring cancer survivors present at the event.

It will continue until tomorrow afternoon. The funds collected will directly go the American Cancer Society.

Jeannie Heikkila was diagnosed with stage IV melanoma. Even though the disease had advanced a lot, she won the battle. She underwent the diagnosis 12 years ago. This time, she will be participating in Relay for Life at Port Angeles for the 9th time.

"In 2001, I was helping Operation Uplift with the Luminary Ceremony", she said.

The event will commence at around 3 pm and will continue for 24 long hours.

The registrations for the Port Angeles event will begin at 10 a. m., today. The event will take place through a number of fun games including Chicken Dance, Limbo, Macarena and Hockey Pokey.
