World Cup Fever Surges the Sales of John Lewis

With the World Cup fever growing, John Lewis Partnership has again earned double digit revenues as the sales increased by 10% at its departmental stores.

As like-for-like sales showing growth of 14.5%, the total sales tax excluding VAT also increased by 17.9% to £53.99m for the week that ended on June 5.

The net sales have grown by 8.5%.

Director Sales, David Barford said, "We've had double-digit sales growth pretty much since the beginning of this year".

Upcoming World Cup event and the hot weather had pushed the sales of TVs, barbecues and football shirts along with other products by 53.6%, as compared to same week last year.

High street store in Leicester had jump of 32.3% in sales, while Aberdeen store was the only one to have reduced sales by 5.9%.

Waitrose, also part of the John Lewis Partnership, had shown increase in sales by 6.1% to £94.42m.

The electrical and technology department registered sales up by 27%.

Edinburgh registered increase of 9.9% and 4.6% in sales in the year, till date. With World Cup stock selling, the fashion and home departments recorded growth of 19% and 18%, respectively.
