Research team for developing personalized mode of medicine will be supported by the University of Queensland. For triggering this, $40.2 million has been announced by the by the Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard.
It was informed by the UQ Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Greenfield that the Government funding sheltered a $107m expansion of the National Imaging Facility. This has positioned the country on the top in the field of medical imaging research and education.
Professor Greenfield said that the advanced medical imaging will result in better techniques of diagnosis and treatment and would also help in developing personalized medicine. The personalized medication is expected to create such treatments and prevention strategies, which the patients can use on their own. He also said that he was thankful for the grant and the proposed partnership.
Announcing the funding, Ms. Gillard said that it will make the country a global leader in imaging research, training and technology development.
The equipments that the expansion will encompass will be the first scanner joining magnetic resonance imaging or MRI and positron emission tomography or PET. Also, the first ultra high-field 7 Tesla human MRI machine will be included in the spread.
With the grants, it will also be possible to provide new research instruments for the partner organizations in the National Imaging Facility.
