Pardo leaves Stuttgart to return to Mexico

Stuttgart - Mexican midfielder Pavel Pardo left VfB Stuttgart on Thursday to rejoin his home club CF America.

Pardo, 32, has been released six months early from his contract with Stuttgart after playing 71 games in two and a half years with the German Bundesliga club.

Stuttgart had offered Pardo a new one-year contract but agreed to release the veteran, capped 142 times by Mexico, after he received an offer from CF America.

"It was a difficult decision. I had a super time here in Stuttgart from both a sporting and private point of view," he said.

Pardo said he could understand Stuttgart's policy of not offering longer contracts to players over 30.

"I am 32 and had this good offer from Mexico for two years with an option for a further year," he said.

The Mexican club is reported to be paying a transfer fee of 500,000 euros (about 690,000 dollars).

Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel said Pardo had served Stuttgart well and the club did not want to stand in his way.

Meanwhile Borussia Moenchengladbach have extended Oliver Neuville's contract for another year. The 35-year-old striker's current contract expires at the end of the season. (dpa)
