With touch-screen smartphones like the iPhone 3G and the BlackBerry Storm ruling the roost, Motorola too has launched what its offering - the MOTOSURF A3100, which its press release terms as a “touch tablet.”
Powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the MotoSURF has all it takes to be categorized as a touch-screen smartphone - 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, assisted GPS, and a finger-friendly interface.
In fact, the device has layered a more finger-friendly user interface, one click of which gives users access to applications that can initiate weather and stock tracking, e-mail programs, instant messaging, and other similar online features – most of them extremely useful for the mobile professional.
In a statement, John Cipolla, Motorola’s senior VP of product development, said: “We developed the MotoSURF A3100 as a true social smartphone. Home screen personalization and access to a whole host of applications gets the info you want - fast, and at your fingertips.”
Some other specs of the MotoSURF - which would roll out in the first quarter initially in the Asian and Latin markets - include 3.5mm headset jack, the trackball, a voluminous 2.8 inches QVGA screen, 3 megapixel camera, and a front-facing camera for video conferencing.
Users of MotoSURF can surf the Web either with the integrated Wi-Fi, or else with HSDPA 3G cellular networks for up to 7.2-Mbps downlink speeds. The GPS chip in the smartphone allows for navigation, geotagging photos, and other location-based services.
