Clad in his Team Q T-shirt, Jack Burke said that he's privileged to have a granddaughter like Quincey Burke.

The duo share a special relationship. Like her grandfather, Quincey is also affected by diabetes. Now 14, she has Type 1 diabetes, while her grandfather has Type 2 diabetes.

Quincey, her grandfather, and eight other pals and relatives, formed Team Q at the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday at Nicholls Oval. It's a global charity event for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This is the 10th year that the walk has been organized in Peterborough. This year's walk collected $52,000 and more contributions are likely to arrive.

Walk Chairwoman, Jennifer Mahoney said that reaching 10 years is a landmark.

She said, "Things are looking really good for us. We're really happy about the turnout".

Mahoney said that all of the money remains in Canada and is utilized for study and support.

Team Q, with eight-month-old Bella, a pug and beagle mix, donned T-shirts created by Quincey's father, Steven. Everybody included their own exceptional beautification.

It was a hard time for the Burke family as they recall when Quincey was detected with the disease, when she was six-years-old.

Burke said that with luck, they will get a treatment, which they will in her life span. They are hopeful for that.
