A New study discloses that Diabetes leads to harmful side effects to mental abilities. Lead author Roger Dixon, a University of Alberta psychology professor expressed, "The basic idea of the study was to find what aspects of cognition were affected most and earliest."
For the study different analysis were done about mental abilities of 41 people within the age of 53 and 90 with Type 2 of adult-onset diabetes, in which insulin production decreases or the body becomes less able to use it.
The results confirmed the previous study of weakening the cognition yet declaring further deteriorating the mental abilities.
Though Roger Dixon stated that scientists are yet not sure of how diabetes can cause weakening of cognition. Only further research can state whether deteriorating of mental abilities are up to general aging recognition only or worse.
Diabetic cases have nearly doubled over the span of last 10 years. Though Diabetes already raises the risk of diseases such as Alzheimer's and that the high blood sugar levels caused by the condition can damage both blood vessels and nerves and lead to damage in many organs until researchers claim the deteriorating of mental abilities which makes another stepping stone for health authorities in their constant efforts for this ever-growing disease.
World Health Organization expects the number to rise to more than 300 million by 2025 which is 194 million people worldwide at present.
Further, Roger Dixon expressed "Speed and executive functioning are thought to be among the major components of cognitive health.
