The acting career of young Shannon Tavarez has been put on hold after it was discovered that she was suffering from leukemia. She was one of the most promising actors and performing in the hit musical The Lion King on Broadway. She is only 11 years old and has already getting treatment for her condition.
Shannon was studying, as well as, doing a role in the musical series. She appeared as young Nala in The Lion King four nights every week and her performance was very promising and appreciated widely.
She continued performing even two months after she was diagnosed with cancer but then it became impossible for her to continue with her performance.
Shannon admitted that her lower back and legs started to hurt severely and she had trouble even walking and she decided to stop acting and start her treatment.
She is now getting chemotherapy treatment from Schneider Children's Hospital and also needs a bone marrow transplant, in the coming days.
There is a problem as there are very few minority donors as the minority pool has less than 10% donors.
Shannon needs a donor that matches her tissue types in order to get a successful bone marrow transplant.
Her friends and family are encouraging people to become potential donors and they have also planned a bone marrow drive for Shannon in the month of July.
The young Shannon is also optimistic and admitted that though her battle is tough, she is determined and confident to overcome it.
