After the much hyped advertising of the electric cars with the promise to save the planet from the pollution of diesel and petrol, the plans have received a severe blow. The experts from the Institution of Engineering and Technology are now claiming that those buying the electric cars, despite £5,000 rebate, will be in loss.
It has been revealed that the technology used for electric car batteries is not strong and lasting and that the cars can serve the owner for only two years.
Warnings by the experts also say that the vehicles will be extremely expensive to use and maintain and that it will not be able to cover long distances because of the battery. This goes against the previously promised features of the cars.
The views of the experts have come a few days after David Cameron asserted the approval of £20million Government grant, which will aid the Nissan, manufactured and build electric cars in the North East. Also, it is known that the Government is planning to spend millions on the charging points that are to be set up at various places including London and other major cities.
The research, on the other hand is now raising questions on the performance of the cars.
The team has surprised and challenged the claims of the Government and the manufacture by saying that the batteries can burn out within two years and the car will require expensive replacements.
