Minister Optimistic About Deal with Nurses

Health Minister, Yves Bolduc says he is positive about the negotiated labor deal with 58,000 member Federation interprofes-sionnelle de la sante du Quebec, which represents health care professionals and nurses.

Delegates of FIQ collectively discarded the latest offer of the Government and asked for major alterations in the working conditions. As a pressure tactic, the FIQ member, plan to implement those modifications in the work place.

"Our action plan and mobilization will continue until the fall, and we will take the time we need to reach an agreement that is satisfactory for our members," said FIQ President Regine Laurent.

According to Michèle Boisclair, Vice-President of the Federation of Quebec Nurses, if Quebec is going to recruit and retain nurses, then the working conditions will be critical, as in the next three years 15,000 nurses will quit the job. However, the Government not believing the fact that the members want good quality of life at the work place and care, as well.

After talking to 475,000 members of Quebec, 113,000 health workers, 7,000 nurses from another union and common front of public-sector employees have signed the labor agreement. Bolduc said that the negotiations will be continued, if they are not agreed to before the summer holidays.
