Flickr is providing an opportunity of earning money to its 40 million registered users with the help of their snaps. Getty Images, from the last two years has been valuing more than 100,000 photos clicked by professional and semi-pro photographers, who use the site to post their pictures.
With the new option, all the Flickr users are being offered the option by the Getty, as it enjoys a library of four billion pictures.
Douglas Alexander, Flickr's General Manager, said that the Flickr users are the "eyes of the world" and that the Company has contributors from over 100 countries, which results in a variety of photos that come in from around the world.
Alexander said that with this deal, the opportunities in the global marketplace for commercial photography will spread and on top of that, he added that the plan will give the users a chance to collect some cash. The amount of money expected to be earned, has not yet been revealed by Getty or Flickr.
It is just known that the rates will be different according to jobs and the industry standards. Projects say that the rate will be $150 to $240. The present deal is an extension to the previous deal, which was signed last year with photo library Getty.
Getty's Chief Operating Officer Nick Evans-Lombe admitted that Flickr is a "great resource and inspiration".
