The Australian mining sector created record employment in the six months to May 2010, according to the latest data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The mining sector tops the chart of jobs creation in percentage terms for the full year. However, the mining sector still remained a very small generator of employment in Australia. In the second quarter of the year, the construction sector created most jobs in Australia.
The figures of the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the mining sector created around 14400 new jobs in the six months ended May 2010. In the full year ended May 2010, the mining sector employment was reported up by 27100 new jobs, increasing by 17.8% comparing to the previous corresponding period. This was reported the highest growth in job creation by any sector in Australia this year.
On the other hand, the construction industry created the most number of new jobs in the second half of the year. The construction sector created 40000 new jobs in the period. This led the construction sector to become the third largest employer in Australia with giving employment to 1 million people.
Health and aged care industry and retail industry were reported the first and second in the list with generating 1.2 million and 1.18 million jobs respectively.
