Lack of Bees Can Threaten Food Security

Researchers claim that bees play a very important role in our food chain and their existence is under threat. This can have serious consequences and may make it difficult for farmers to grow crops like apples and pumpkins.

It is stressed that bees play an important role in the pollination process. It is claimed that lack of insect pollinators will make it difficult to grow various crops including strawberries. This can have a damaging impact on the whole food chain.

A previous study has already established that bee species in England are rapidly disappearing and they are fading away at a faster rate, as compared to any other country in Europe. Almost 50% of the bee hives have vanished in the last 20 years. Climate change and the loss of habitat are also severely affecting butterflies and other insect species.

The Government has already launched a £10 million project to find out the reasons for the rapid disappearance of bees and other insect species.

Experts claim that this project is very vital to ensure the food security in the country. The services of wild pollinators are very important but all these species are declining and under a lot of threat.

Insect pollinators play an important role and contribute £440 million to the British economy every year.
