Gov. Intends to Freeze Council Tax

The Government intends to freeze council tax, which is anticipated to be included in today's emergency financial plan, might possibly cost Nottingham City Council £2.4 million.

The city council had budgeted for a 2.5% increase in council tax, in the subsequent year.

However, that proceeds could be lost if Chancellor George Osborne places forward a parcel of measures, which is designed to radically decrease investment and increase taxes, so as to reduce the country's discrepancy.

Particulars of how a council tax freeze will be put into practice are yet to get confirmation, but it is perceived that Mr. Osborne desires to lessen the blow of other measures he is set to suggest.

Local council is already facing hard time to take in the scenario of cuts in investment.

Councilor, Graham Chapman, Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council said that prior to the election; the Conservatives assured that they would recompense councils, when tax freeze scenario comes up.

Mr. Chapman said no declarations were predictable in the budget concerning major transport schemes such as Nottingham Station and the extension to the tram system.

But he said that projects like these will be of great importance, since they will be able to offer a number of jobs to a great section of people.
