Two school students are reported to have tested positive for the H1N1 influenza, few days following monsoon initiation and the beginning of the new academic session.
A 12-year-old student studying in a school in Pune Camp was diagnosed positive on June 17, while a senior KG student from a school in Pashan was found to be trapped by the disease on June 19.
Apart from this, earlier, a 24-year-old management student was also reported to be test positive on June 7, for the disease.
“While the management student has recovered fully, the two school students have been isolated at home and are recuperating”, A C Kante, Assistant Deputy Director of the state health services, was quoted as saying on Monday.
A serological survey conducted by the National Institute of Virology (NIV), which tested 12,000 blood samples, uncovered that 35% of Pune’s student population is now immune to the H1N1 virus.
However, the research revealed that the only group with comparatively lowered immunity is the adult office-going section.
Kante placated the population by stating that there is no need to panic, as the health authorities possess enough stock of Tamiflu. Moreover, swine flu, preventive vaccine is available in the market, now.
