Six hospital beds will see an opening at Albury hospital within weeks, to provide the patients suffering from chronic winter illnesses, for example influenza and gastroenteritis, proper facilities.
The beds, which will allow 41 -additional patients to be treated, are part of a $13.9 million promise announced yesterday by Victorian Health Minister, Daniel Andrews.
The Brumby Government intends to open more than 100 extra hospital beds throughout the state to meet an increase in winter demand, offering the -capacity to treat 1029 more patients throughout 10 metropolitan, regional and rural Victorian hospitals from July 1.
Albury Wodonga Health Chief -Executive, Dr .Stuart Spring said the opening of six extra hospital beds at Albury with Victorian Government money was revolutionary.
They are sub-acute beds that seem to be for the elderly. Where it assists is that when there are more beds available to take care of those with chronic diseases, it makes it simpler to take care of things.
Dr. Spring said during winter there was a rise in orthopedic -demands due to the ski season, so the result to locate the beds in Albury was planned in meeting the patient load.
That money from Victoria will be used to help the entire society, he said.
