Researchers from the University of Montreal have designed a hospital gown, which covers the backside of patients and is made especially for their comfort.
Professor from the Montreal Institute of Industrial Design, Denyse Roy and another designer, Noemie Marquis helped in designing the gown, known as the DUO. Doctors will have easy access to the patient’s body during examinations, as there are panels both in front and at the back of gown.
Because of dual panel, it has been named as DUO. It also allows trouble free changing and care of the patients by the support staff.
The DUO hospital gown has been designed in such a way that one size will fit to all, which can also accommodate overweight patients and pregnant ladies. The gown is easy to wear and does not have tie cords in it like the traditional hospital gown.
The gown is a lighter fabric and more cost effective, as it is made of 35% cotton and 65% of polyester. “Regular gown for an average of 100 patients cost over $10,000 for maintenance and initial purchase and that the new design will bring costs down to about $9, 540”, said Marquis in press release.
The DUO gown was first examined at St. Mary’s Hospital Center in Montreal. Patients and staff of the patient were overwhelmed with the new gown.
