Quin Investments Chief Held Guilty of Gladstone Unit Explosion

Quin Investments Chief Operating Officer, Nik Kuzub, has been alleged to be ignorant towards ensuring the safety of the workers at one of its plants, where 3 workers were killed in an explosion in 2006.

He was dragged into Industrial Court in Adelaide in 2006, for his mismanagement at the Gladstone factory explosion in South Australia.

The court declared the Chief guilty of violating the Occupational Health and Safety Act. He was also held under the charges of mishandling the equipment.

Garry Harris, the father of one of the victims of the explosion, talked to the reporters.

"All I can say is we waited four years; we've now found out that it was totally preventable. What more can I say?” he said.

The defendant solicitor, Grant Germein, is of the view that the judge has won the confidence of the Government officials and the SafeWork SA authorities.

The case will be reopened in the court next month for penalizing the guilty.

The trial was commenced in November 2009, with the public prosecutors accusing the Chief of not taking care of the proper functioning of the machinery.

The victims of the explosion were Damian Harris, Matt Keeley and Darren Millington.
