H1N1 Symptoms Changing with Genetic Mutation

As the H1N1 virus has undergone genetic changes, the treatments and the nature of the Tamiflu, the anti-viral vaccine, has to be updated.

Dr G. T. Ambe, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Executive Health Officer, said, that the patients infected with the virus will not depict fever, this time. The most crucial symptoms will be sore throat and backache.

However, he said that the earlier Tamiflu is treating the patients effectively, so far.

Dr. A. C. Mishra, Director of the National Institute of Virology, presented a detailed analysis on the alterations taking place in antigenicity of the virus.

Dr. Om Srivastav, a specialist on Infectious disease, also shared his assessment of the changes in swine flu onset.

“Fever is not a predominant feature anymore. There is a small change in the virus. But this is not surprising. We expect it to change further”, he said.

As the rainy season is approaching, the health experts are alarming the nation to get extra careful. This is being done in view of the possibility of the virus becoming more efficient in infecting the people, during the season.

The municipal corporations across different cities are looking ahead to hold workshops to spread awareness.
