The fraud case of Conrad Black returns to the court

A US appeal court has been ordered to verify the Conrad Black fraud case again. The newspaper tycoon Mr. Conrad Black has been imprisoned after being charged with this fraud case.

The US Supreme Court has ordered to look again at Black’s conviction saying that the US government had not used the law properly in this case.

The court has given a same kind of ruling in the case of Jeffery Skilling, who was the former chief executive of Enron. It is now up to the appeals court whether to overturn the conviction or not.

Both Black and Skilling were charged with the ‘honest services’ law, which is a federal law, passed in the year 1988 and allows the prosecution of executives who deprive the firms of their honesty in service.

As per the experts, this law is very unclear and it is used to turn the business and political mistakes in to crimes. Conrad Black was charged of defrauding the investors in his publishing company Hollinger International. This company was the owner of the Chicago Sun-Times and Daily Telegraph.
