Ryan O’Neal Pleads Guilty

Actor Ryan O'Neal, best-known for his 1970 film 'Love Story', who along with his son Redmond, 23, was arrested last September, after police searching their Malibu home found methamphetamine in both the O'Neals' bedrooms, on Friday pleaded guilty to the drug charges.

The court has ordered 18-months of drug counseling for the 67-year old actor, and will dismiss the case against him, on successful completion of the drug diversion programme. However, Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for Los Angeles County District Attorney reveals, if ever O'Neal is found to test positive for drug use, the court will impose further penalties on him.

As for Redmond O'Neal, O'Neal's son from his relationship with actress Farah Fawcett, has been on probation since June 2008, after pleading guilty to the charges of felony drug possession, and misdemeanor driving under the influence, which led to the search of their home.

In the present case, both father and son were charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, while charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and pepper spray were also slapped on the younger O'Neal. Redmond O'Neal's Friday arraignment in the case, has been postponed to 20th February.

Ryan O'Neal nominated for an Oscar for his role in tear-jerker 'Love Story' with Ali MacGraw, first rose to fame in ' Peyton Place ', the 1960s prime-time soap opera. More recently, the actor has made several guest appearances on the Fox drama 'Bones'.

Daughter Tatum O'Neal, who as a little girl starred alongside her father in the 1973 film 'Paper Moon', won an Academy Award for her first onscreen role.
