Last year, the US residents shelled out over $30 billion to banks in overdraft charges. The Federal Government has come about with an answer to defend the customer in a better way. Beginning from July 1st, banks will have to provide customers with alternatives, when it comes to overdraft defense.
Take a candy bar, for instance. According to the old regulation, if you charge it to your debit card and you are in debt, you will have to pay $32.
Now, at Ameris Bank, overdraft charges are just $5, if you have leap protection against the $32 Dollar overdraft payment if you don't.
Majority of the people most probably have had bank overdrafts at one time or another.
Josh Pollock said that he had some overdrafts with errors or some omission on his part.
Overdraft payments, which crop up when a bank lets a transaction to go through, owing to courtesy overdraft defense.
But, banks provide the overdraft shield to cover people, who use money that they do not have in their bank accounts.
Ameris Bank proffers a comparable service. Don Monk, President of Ameris Bank said, "We will automatically cover any customer's account up to $500. The reason is it prevents embarrassment on part of the customer".
