HIV/AIDS is a cross-cutting subject matter that is recognizable by a majority of people. If one does get infected with HIV then certainly, a friend, relative or someone known to them is infected or affected by it.
According to the 2007 Zambia Demographic and Health Survey, approximately all Zambian adults have heard of HIV and AIDS, but information regarding HIV prevention measures is pretty low.
The thing to worry about is that a mere 69 % of men and women aged somewhere between 15-49 know that making use of condoms and limiting sex to one faithful partner can help in reducing the risk of getting infected with HIV.
The 2007 ZDHS, in addition, states that prevention information is higher amongst those with higher levels of education. 85% of women and 75% of men know that HIV can be transmitted by breastfeeding, too.
On the other hand, a meager 68% of women and 56% of men have knowledge about taking drugs in reducing the risk of Mother to Child Transmission during pregnancy.
It is but obvious that kids with HUV need treatment and without that, they are likely to die before time, which definitely is sorrowful.
