The Queensland Government will invest $4 million to give away 400,000 new Go Cards for use on the southeast's public transport network.
Premier, Anna Bligh on Monday said that the ‘great Go Card giveaway’ would be done at community affairs, online and through newspapers to promote those who are not already passionate users to switch from paper tickets.
The cards are laden with money online, by phone, at newsagents, train stations and on buses and are scanned, when travelling to slash down the long queues.
One million cards have been taken up, ever since their rollout, which was done two years back, in advance of the phase-out of paper tickets early next year.
Ms. Bligh said that it is far more efficient way of travelling.
It means that the buses and trains can carry a load of people and unload them more rapidly, and everyone can get where they want to go as fast and on time as possible.
Transport Minister, Rachel Nolan said that the giveaway's status had led to internet site troubles on Monday, but the website had not crashed.
