Shimano Renew Dura-Ace Wheels and Pedals

Renewing the hubs on the existing 24mm and 50mm wheels, Shimano are pioneering an all-new 35mm carbon wheel set into their Dura-Ace range. It is being said that that there would possibly be a new carbon version of the Dura-Ace pedals.

The new 35mm wheels selected WH-7900-C35-x will be obtainable in both tubular and clincher versions and contain the latest Dura-Ace 7900 hubs, which have ingenious bearing tuning without the need for cone spanners.

The clincher versions, which are a carbon/aluminum composite weigh 1,627g per set, will cost £1,200. The tubular in all-carbon weigh 1,339g will sell for £1,700. These will most probably be available by mid October.

The on hand 24mm rims, which come in either standard or 'tubeless'-compatible clincher format but no longer for 'tubs' will be offered with new hubs from November and will lessen overall weight by about 20g or so.

All the Dura-Ace wheels are fabricated with 16 butted, bladed, stainless steel, straight-pull spokes in the front and 20 in the rear wheel.

The bearing, axle and retention mechanism of the new PD-7900 pedal, likely to be available by September, will be unchanged over the existing PD-7810, but the pedal body will be made of carbon composite resulting in a weight decrease of 30g to 248g and a price increase of £20 to £199.
