National Express Chief Demands a Better Rail Franchising Model in Britain

Overtaking the ongoing rail and bus operations in February, Dean Finch shared that he is still waiting for permission by the new Government, for the Company to be allowed to bid for fresh train franchises. Earlier, National Express had been warned to be barred by the Labor administration for taking any new rail bids.

This warning came up as a result of the walk out on the £1.4bn East Coast bond in the previous year. Now, Mr. Finch demanded a rather better ‘flexible model’ in the Company, instead of a system being micro-managed by municipal servants.

To this, Mr. Finch said, “I have received "no assurances" from the new Government that the group would be welcome back as a bidder. It all depends on what the new franchising model looks like. Most operators are having a fairly hellish time in rail at the moment”.

He instanced his speech by saying that no officials are needed as such in Whitehall to tell where the bike rack should move at the York station. Besides official declaration to Mr. Flinch, the Company has been granted permission to keep hold of its C2C and East Anglia train services. Meanwhile, the administration is on its duty to assess the franchise system.
