Tasmanian Government has called on the ABC to apologize for two Australian story episodes, which presented incorrect research of St. Helens doctor, Alison Bleaney.
In February, the ABC's Australian Story quoted a doctor who said that water of George River is contaminated and responsible for increased rates of cancer in St. Helens.
Then, Mr. Bartlett had written to the ABC asking for a correction, after an expert team found that water was not at all contaminated.
The expert panel of George River Water established that the apparent toxicity of water was caused by a faulty technique of gathering samples that disfigured results by a factor of 1400.
"These two episodes of Australian Story caused fear and distress in the St Helens community and damaged the town's tourist reputation throughout Australia", Mr. Bartlett said.
Mr. Bartlett said that Australian Story had supposed that pollutants from eucalypt nitens plantations in the George River catchment might have been associated to unusually elevated cancer rates.
All of these things have been proved to be incorrect by the study of national scientific experts. Still, the program, which carried out poor research, is available on the website of ABC.
Mr. Bartlett also made it clear in his statement that immediately after the improved research of experts; he had written letter to ABC and asked them to remove the program from their website.
