It is expected that the new speedy emergency department treatment will emerge as one of the much hyped topics in a new web-based portal unveiled today.
All DHBs are in a bid to achieve a target of a maximum six hour stay in ED for 95% of patients. It is reported to be a challenge, specifically for many bigger DHBs.
The National Target Champion, Professor Mike Ardagh posts that there numerous factors across the spectrum of health care, that pose an effect on the duration of stay in the ED.
DHBs aim to keep a track of the number of patients moving into and through ED to the hospital thereby keeping it within required levels. Also, the number of patients being discharged back home or to the community, will be pondered over to manage the process flow.
Professor Ardagh posts that some hospitals and services have come up with lot of initiatives to control these issues and it is beneficial to spread knowledge of these ideas and successful initiatives.
He adds that the new web based portal launched facilitates doctors, nurses and other health professionals a podium to share ideas, interact over the web, and collectively work to come up with new and innovative working methods.
