Appealing WTO Findings In Regards to Condemned Loans: EC

The European Commission is likely to appeal World Trade Organization findings that damned some loans to Airbus as export subsidies, the Chief Executive of Airbus's parent company, European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co., said on Saturday.

EADS Chief Executive, Louis Gallois also condemned the reaction of Airbus archrival Boeing Co. to the findings, stating that Airbus will be challenging it for a chief airborne tanker contract in the U. S.

Previously this week, the World Trade Organization officially condemned European subsidies to civil-aircraft manufacturer, Airbus; finding that no less than $20 billion in low-interest Government loans were brought in use to develop six models of passenger jet, comprised banned export subsidies.

They said that for a definite number of refundable advances, there were constituents of subsidy, Mr. Gallois told reporters on the sidelines of an economic meeting here.

The European Commission, the 27-member European Union's managerial branch, supervises trade policy for the union.

While the WTO's verdict said support for some airplanes comprises launch aid, it did not draw any conclusions on the new A350 model, now under progress, since work started after the U. S. case was filed in 2004.

Mr. Gallois said Airbus doesn't hope to see alterations in state support for its new A350 airplane.
