World of Warcraft lead designer, Tom Chilton has hinted that Blizzard might transition to a free-to-play model.

The lead designer was heard quoting: "At some point, it may not make sense for us to have a subscription fee." Quickly adding to the same it was stated that this move will happen no sooner in the near future.

Other major offerings from MMO games comes games such as The Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online and these too have jumped to a free-to-play model.

In addition to the money making part this portfolio shall include 'clothing upgrades' for characters as well as other digital items.

Chilton through a statement expressed his thought in terms of movies stating that each one is competing against other games that are on a similar subscriber level.

The World of Warcraft will definitely face a huge competition through this channel.
