Nokia's new association of the MeeGo Project has officially kicked off. The reports claim that its "Day 1" launch is offering a baseline source code that has been opened for developers.

Sources claim that October will mark the release of MeeGo 1.1, on Nokia smartphones. And in the same context the MeeGo UI team has stated that they are gearing up in making of the "handset reference user experience."

MeeGo launch claims the final merger of Moblin and Maemo, a joint venture of Intel and Nokia.

In the meanwhile reports state that MeeGo Project Handset Day 1 comprises of MeeGo APIs that integrates Qt and MeeGo Touch UI Framework (MTF), has a subset of the handset reference UI and applications.

It also includes status Bar: clock, network, Bluetooth, 3G connection, notifications, and battery charge and also a Home Screen, a Lock Screen, an Application Launcher and a Virtual Keyboard.

Along with this comes the app features such as Dialer, SMS, Browser, Contacts, and Photo Viewera and obviously the MeeGo Core OS (including the middleware components) that has a Hardware adaptation support for Intel Atom-based handset (Moorestown) and ARM-based Nokia N900.
