Government on Anti-Adulteration Drive

The district administration has decided to register cases against 96 people, who have been found guilty of marketing adulterated food.

H P Sahi, the City Magistrate, disclosed that 547 food samples were tested by a Lucknow laboratory and 96 of these samples were adulterated.

District Magistrate, Mukesh Kumar Meshram has given Sahi one week duration to carry out the necessary procedures and file cases against the guilty.

The accused would also be charged with producing and marketing adulterated products, under section 272 and 273 of IPC.

Meshram revealed that the campaign has started against the people, who have been involved in adulterating the food products, over the previous few months. Maximum number of samples depicted adulteration in the frequently used food products, which includes wheat, spices, tomato sauce, ice-cream, rice and besan.

The DM revealed that stringent action will be taken, if any official in the district is found guilty of neglecting his duty. He also threatened to invoke National Security Act and Gangster Act, against the people, who are involved in such activities.

The procedure for registering cases against the accused has been started by a squad of 17 food inspectors.
