January has been declared as the Alzheimer's Disease Awareness month in Canada. Almost 500,000 Canadians are afflicted with brain degenerative disease which is incurable.
A recent study indicates that age of a large number people getting affected by the disease is less than 65.
According to Sylvia Rothney, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, this is a scary picture of the future course of the disease.
"Fifteen per cent of people diagnosed with dementia are under age 65, so it isn't only our health care and social systems that are being overwhelmed," she said.
The Alzheimer Society aims at providing Alzheimer's patients information and support.
During the present month the society is urging all Canadians to help in reducing the future growth and effect of Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. It could be in the form of donations or timely action to prevent dementia in self or else by spreading awareness about the disease.
