Jack Layton, the New Democratic Party leader’s condition is getting worse by the deadly disease called prostate cancer. He has got skinny, the sparkle in his eyes has dimmed and his walk has got sluggish. But as expressed by him, he is trying to survive with the help of friends.
He has been struggling with this disease, since February. But his team of doctors is pleased with his progress and the fact that his PSA levels are back to normal.
Layton’s father had the same disease 17 years ago. He died in 2002 at age 76, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.
Now the Layton is suffering from the same.
He is getting his treatment from Princess Margaret Hospital. He has always been an energetic man and his friends could not believe that a deadly disease has stuck him.
His wife, NDP MP Olivia Chow, told the Star that she has always advised him to reduce his weight, as he has high cholesterol and keep a check on his diet, which includes broccoli, cooked tomatoes and an Asian berry called goji.
Almost every member of Parliament wore a teal-and-blue-striped tie or scarf — the color of Prostate Cancer Canada — inside the House of Commons in support of Layton’s fight.
Layton may be spending a good time with his granddaughter Beatrice, this summer, which will keep him more than busy.
